The Suffern Fire Department: Organized in 1900, is an all volunteer organization, and divided into two Companies: Suffern Hook & Ladder Co #1 and the Suffern Volunteer Hose Co #1. There are currently 55 members in the Hook & Ladder and there are currently 75 members in the Hose Company.

Coverage Area: The Suffern Fire Department has its primary responsibility to the citizens of the village of Suffern New York. The village of Suffern is 3 square miles with a population of approximately 12,000. The Village borders Mahwah, New Jersey, and the Villages of Airmont, Hillburn, and Montebello. The Suffern Fire Department also responds to calls on a mutual aid basis to any department in Rockland County or its close neighbors in Bergen and Orange Counties.
Becoming A Volunteer: The Suffern Fire Department is seeking men and women interested in serving as volunteers for their communities. Any member of the community is welcome to join the Suffern Fire Department by choosing to become a member of one of the two companies. Both Companies hold training drills on Monday evenings, starting at 7 pm, and have one business meeting per month.
